Go Confidently In The Direction Of Your Dreams -- Decor Elements

I think I have mentioned before that my mom is not a stamper, but a quilter.  And, what I see in cardstock and Designer Series Paper, she sees in fabric.  She has a few stamp sets and two ink pads, but other than that, nada....Up until now!!!  [Although, I was so impressed that she used her stamps on her Christmas card envelopes!  Go mom!] 

Well, when I was up north for Thanksgiving, I was showing the Definately Decorative catalog to my sister-in-law and a friend.  As we were chatting about the versitility of the vinal adhesives, my mom walked in and picked up a catalog.  I brought her attention to the big "tree" and the saying that it looked so great with it..."Go Confidently In The Direction Of Your Dreams" saying and birds.  She exclaimed that she had been looking for something to replace an old quilt on the wall in her kitchen and "THIS is it!"  Yaaahoooo!  Well, needless to say, she purchased them, and one of our projects during our visit over Christmas was to apply her new Decor Elements.  What do you think?  [I must admit this was the first time I have actually applied a Wall Decor Element and it came off without a hitch!  Phew!]   I LOVE IT!

Instructions:

1. Using Paper Cutter, score 12” x 5 ½” Mellow Moss CS at 4 ¼”, 6” and 7 ¾”.
2. Fold card in a “W” pattern. Line underside of card at folds with Sticky Tape in a “I____I” pattern. NOTE: See example to verify you are gluing properly.
3. Use pencil to slightly mark ¼” in on sides of flap. Line up outside BLACK edge of Word Window Punch on mark on left side and punch only half way in. Repeat on right side. Use ¾” Circle Punch to punch a half circle on edge in middle of flap.
4. Wheel front and inside of gift card with Textured Jumbo Wheel and Mellow Moss Ink Cartridge [in wheel]. NOTE: Wheel on either side of the flap.
5. Stamp saying on 2 ¼”x 2” Whisper White CS. Layer on 2 ½” x 2 ¼” Chocolate Chip CS. Adhere inside.
6. SNAIL ribbon and wrap around card.
7. Ink “Pine tree” in Mellow Moss Ink. Use Blender Pen to “brush off” trunk and ground. Ink trunk and ground with Chocolate Chip Marker. Stamp onto Whisper White CS.
8. Layer main image onto Chocolate Chip CS and then onto Always Artichoke CS. Adhere with Dimensionals.
9. Use Wide Oval Punch to punch an oval out of scrap Chocolate Chip CS.
10. Ink “Christmas” with Chocolate Chip Marker. Stamp on scrap Whisper White CS. Use the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to image “Merry” OVER “Christmas” with marker. Punch with Designer Label Punch. Adhere to oval and main image.
11. Tie ribbon.

Brag Book Album - In Memorium

The Manhattan Flowers stamp set coupled with a saying from the Refuge and Strength stamp set are what I used to make this Brag Book Album.  I have posted brag books before, so Click Here to view them. if you want to see some different designs and directions.

If you are wondering what I put inside this one, it is full of pictures of someone dear to my family...Great Grandma Emily.  She was my husband's "adopted Canadian grandmother" and she passed away recently after living a wonderful life.  Long story short, but she and her husband ended up being just like grandparents to Erik while he was attending high school at Grenville Christian College.  Hence, she was given a special coursage and escorted down the aisle to a special seat at our wedding over eight years ago; we had the chance to visit with her and introduce her to our children on two seperate occassions in Canada; and, today we celebrate her life in memorial.  I didn't know her for too long, but she was a dear woman and I am sure she is in Heaven with the Lord today!

O.K., at any rate, Erik is off to the memorial today and asked me to pull together some pictures of our Canada trips for Emily's children.  So, that is why I made the Brag Books.  I hope they speak comfort to her family.  It was a blessing to know her!

Stamping on Candles - Tutorial

OH MY WORD! Stamping on candles is one of the MOST FUN techniques EVER!!!!!!! It is so easy! Anyone can do it! Too bad I didn't discover this earlier. They make such great gifts! I want to thank Splitcoaststampers.com for posting this fabulous idea!


Project Supplies:

Morning Soft Stamp Set

Tissue Paper
Wax Paper
Barely Banana Stampin’ Write Marker

INSTRUCTIONS:

• Stamp “flower” image on tissue paper in Jet Black StazOn ink.


• Color in flower using Summer Sun Marker for petal highlights, Barely Banana Marker for the main part of the flower, and Pumpkin Pie Marker for the center of the flowers. Use Old Olive Marker for leaf highlights and Certainly Celery Marker for the main part of the leaf.


• Cut out your stamped images fairly close to the edges.


• Take a piece of wax paper and cut it so that it is not any taller than the candle being used and long enough so that it wraps completely around the candle and then some.


• Take your first stamped image and place it on the candle. Then place the wax paper on top and wrap the wax paper around the candle. Wing out the extra wax paper and pinch close with your fingers making sure the wax paper is tight against the candle.


• Heat up your Heat Tool for 30-40 seconds until it is nice and hot. Moving quickly, wave it over the area where the stamped image is; be sure to keep the wax paper nice and tight. Every candle will have a different wax melting point, but you should see a change begin to take place within a few seconds. As the candle heats up, the pressure from the wax paper should push the image into the melting wax of the candle, embedding the image and leaving your image intact.


• Slowly peel the wax paper off the candle.


• You can do numerous images on one candle; just place another image and move the wax paper. It is best to try and not use the same spot on the wax paper for each image, but you can use 1 piece of wax paper numerous times.

Bag-In-A-Box

Hi all! I have missed you! Man, this winter season has just taken every ounce of my energy. With the sad passing of my father-in-law and the joyous union of my brother and his sweetheart, life has been busy. And though, I have finally had time to create...I have little time to sit and blog. I will work on that for you. So sorry! But, thanks for checking in!I love this super cute Bag-In-A-Box! Check it out! 3-D Fish Tank Fun

For the past week my daughter has been asking, nagging, begging me to make her a fish tank. "Just like the one we saw, Mom. You know the one. Pleeeeeeeeeeeasssssssssssssssssse!" Oh my, how can I resist? My daughter begging to stamp with me!?! Only, I kept stalling. I could not quite figure out how I wanted to go about it to make it just right.

Today, I told her this morning was the time to finally do it. My only problem is that when I am creating on the fly [without a template or picture to copy] I need quiet....no music, no kids, no phone. [That is why I generally do my best work at 11pm!] However, today is a family Saturday...a pajama day....a day that we have not had in a long time, so to shoooo everyone away was not an option. So, "E" stamped and created a variety of items [fish food] for her fish tank, while I created the tank itself. With my husband's music blaring from the stereo and "Mommy, why are you doing that?" "Mommy, what is that for?" "Mommy, can I help?" Sigh..."yes, of course.", it took 2-1/2 hours for us to finalize it, but here is the final creation.

I know it may seem that I am complaining, but I do not intend to do so. I am blessed with my family and I love them so much! I love to stamp with "E", but for some reason this morning I was all stressed about it. Sigh....good memories, right? I hope this creation lasts a long time for her to enjoy. My fabulous husband thought it was "very cool." Phew!

• The window is made with a Large Cello bag, hair gel & glitter. I didn't have an zip-loc bags big enough, so I SNAILed and Sticky Taped it shut REALLY tight to make sure we didn't have a leak in the fish tank. The "water" is layered between the outside Tempting turquoise layer and the inside Whisper White front layer with TONS of Sticky Tape. Great stuff!
• Next time, I think I might add some fish inside with the "water." That way there are some that float around!
• This is a free standing 3-D project, so that "E" can feed the fish!

Handmade gifts are the best! What better way to tell someone you care then to make them a journal and write a letter in the first page? That way they always know how you feel. I have two best girl friends. You know the kind that go through everything with you and still like you! The kind that you can call in the middle of the night and cry with. I have two! I am very blessed to know them both. Love you E & J!

One recently had a birthday and I made these items for her. She LOVED them! Pink....is all her color. Not to give it all away or anything, but I bought a "science" journal [you know the one they had you buy for Chemistry in high school?] at the dollar store and then covered it with Designer Series Paper. I adhered Stampin' Up!s fabulous 1-1/4" Striped Rose Red Grosgrain Ribbon to the binding, added some die-cut adhesives from the retired Simply Scrappin' Kit - Rose Cottage, and then stamped a Monogram J [also, retired] and clear embossed it. Voila! Done!

I also made her this super fabulous bookmark! I take NO credit for the idea or design. [Stampin' Up! did this idea at Convention this year. VIEW HERE] But, the colors are all mine :-) Of course, Rose Red to go with the pink theme. I love this bookmark, because it flops over the outside of your book or SU! catalog and the Filigree Brad at the bottom pokes out the end. So pretty!

INSTRUCTIONS
*Pop out the square in the middle of the scalloped On Board Square and set it aside. Ink both sides of the chipboard with Regal Rose Ink. [This can be messy, so you might want to find a wipe first to clean your hands after.] Set aside to dry.
*Layer Sweet Always DSP onto Pumpkin Pie CS.
*Stamp the “flower” image onto Whisper White CS by first inking in Rose Red ink and then coloring the middle with the Chocolate Chip Marker. Cut out with Paper Snips.
*Adhere the layered DSP onto the front of the On Board Scalloped Square with SNAIL. Turn over and adhere four strips of Sticky Tape inside of the open square onto the back of the Pumpkin Pie CS. Adhere ribbon on Sticky Tape inside the square leaving a small space near the top. Apply more Sticky Tape on top of the ribbon and adhere the On Board Square inside, as best you can. Adhere Pumpkin Pie CS with A LOT OF SNAIL on top of the ON BOARD square and ribbon to cover back.
*Fold the bottom of the ribbon in half lengthwise and cut a “V.” Place Filigree Flower and Brad at the bottom.
*Adhere cut flower to the front of your bookmark with a Dimensional on each petal and in the middle. Apply a small amount of Crystal Effects to the middle of the flower only for now. [Be careful this comes out fast!]. Hold your bookmark over the Powder Pals and sprinkle with Micro Beads. [Be careful they bounce!] Apply Crystal Effects to the rest of the flower and over the Micro Beads for a “shellacked” look. Set aside to dry. [This could take a half hour or more depending on the amount of CE you applied.]

Scalloped Envelope Big Shot Box

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new BIG SHOT MACHINE! Especially, Stampin' Ups! exclusive dies. This project uses the brand new Scalloped Envelope Bigz Die and is the template for the lovely scalloped top. Just die-cut four of them in the color of your choosing, fold on the score lines and adhere together using Sticky Tape! [I found the idea for this CUTE little box on http://www.spiltcoaststampers.com/ and adapted it to my tastes. What do you think? The idea came from Whoopsie Daisy and also Tara Kieninger. Check out their creations by clicking each name.]

I just LOVE that site and use tons of ideas from there. Now you know one of my secrets...shhh...don't tell ;-).....

I changed the top a bit by making a Scalloped Tab to close it. How? The DSP comes with a 12 x 12 card board backing. I SNAILed my DSP to that and then punched it out with the Scalloped Circle Punch! Then, I used my Paper Snips to cut a slit just to the center of each scallop. Wrapping the Pretty In Pink Taffeta Ribbon around the bottom of the box, I then attached the ribbon to the underside of each scallop. Adhere your bow slightly above the slit and then put your scallops together to have the appearance of one scallop ! Done!

This card LOOKS complicated, but it really is not. I take absolutely no credit for this idea or even the design as I cased it from Mary Jo. What I love best about this card is the way it folds down and fits nicely in a Medium sized envelope. What a treat to have this come in the mail! I sent mine to a friend who makes others smile. :-) She is an inspiration!

Another school creation!


I did this with a group of mothers for Staff Appreciation Week at Erilynne's school. We made fifty of these projects. We hung the boxes off of water bottles and stuffed them with Crystal Light To Go and candy. Everyone just loved it!

I can't remember where I got the design. Sorry to whomever I owe the credit. Though, I did change it a bit color wise and made it into the Hanging Treat Box.

"All In the Family" Jacob's Ladder Book

I can't believe it has been so long since I have posted! Yikes! So sorry, Stampers!
I'll keep the chit-chat to a minimum and just give you the creations I've been working on lately.
I made these two very cool Jacob's Ladder Books for Erilynne's teacher and room mother at school. Tomorrow [well technically today] is the last day of school and I wanted to give them something to remember the class by. Today the 4K class had a special field trip to Griffen Park where they got to play and had a presentation for the parents. So sweet! I took a boat load of pictures and will put them inside for a remembrance.



Go here to get the directions to do your own Jacob's Ladder Book. Split Coast Stampers is a fabulous resource. I found the directions on this a little hard to comprehend [could be because it is soooo late]. But, when I actually got to making the book, it worked out beautifully. Now it is a cinch!

May Flowers - Ginger Blossoms

Hi Everyone!


May is here and with it Spring! I just love watching all the plants come back to life and sprout flowers and buds. So exciting! Though, it has been a little on the cold side of things this week. Not to complain, this is better than all the snow!
Thank you so much for all your patience as I have been undergoing construction. My stamping room is still torn apart and now waiting for paint. Ugh! But.....it is going to be so fabulous to have it DONE! Woohoo!

I am headed off to my upline's Stampin' Event 2008 tomorrow. Please pray for me as I am doing a short presentation for over a hundred demonstrators. I am a little nervous....yikes, but on the whole, the day is going to be AWESOME!!! I am currently mass producing a card to swap there. I hope to come home with some fabulous new ideas and layouts that I can share with you later.

I know you must be chomping at the bit to see something new. So to go along with May Flowers, springtime and things that are new, I have created something to make you think outside of the "box" [card or whatever you usually stamp]. Tupper, my husband, has taken to saving all sorts of containers for me. Lately [well, before the construction], I would go downstairs to find some new container on my work table. "What I am supposed to do with this?" I would ask. "I thought you could make something out of it." He would answer. Aww....he is trying to help me create new stuff! He is so great!

O.K., enough mushiness, THIS project is made from an ice tea canister. The top comes off and I am using it as a door prize bin. I was always forgetting a basket and I think this is soooo much better! You can just let your imagination run wild with all the uses: piggy bank, candy container, gift container....your turn!



Tips:
*Measure the height of your canister and cut the DSP to match.
*Wrap the DSP and mark where it touches to get the circumference.
*Create your embellishment and adhere with Sticky Strip. SNAIL adhesive just is not strong enough for this project.
*Decorate the top of the canister.
*To create the hole in the top, us the Word Window Punch as a template on a scrap piece of paper. Decide the width of your hole [mine is one and a quarter WW Punches. Very exact, as you can see ;-p ]. Place the template over the center and cut with your hobby blade. [Mine did not cut so well, so I added the accent paper to cover the boo-boo. See pictures below.]

Clear Envelope Book

I stamped this Clear Envelope Book for a friend of mine who suffered a great loss this week. Instead of pictures inside, it contains scriptures to help her through. Click here to access the directions. I wrote a personal note on the back cover for her. I printed the scripture verses on to Certainly Celery CS and will be stamping those before I put them in the book.

Even though I made this project for a sad occasion, I pray that it gives my friend comfort. I poured prayers and love into each step. I will definitely make one of these again. It was a very fast book to make and is great for a few pictures. A Brag Book for you or Nana or Grandma? A recipe book for a new bride? A nice way to show off some of your card creations?
